Malachyte raises $10M for Spotify-style retail AI
E-commerce startup Malachyte has raised $10 million in seed funding to scale its real-time recommendation engine, which adapts to shopper behavior on the fly without relying on past purchase history.

The startup, founded by former Spotify employees Sidd Motwani, Ian Anderson, and Shivaditya Sinha, secured the seed round to expand its product and commercial teams. The funding was co-led by Bessemer Venture Partners and Gradient, with Harpoon Ventures also participating. Malachyte aims to replace static, history-based personalization with two-headed Vector AI, a system inspired by the behavioral intelligence infrastructure that powers roughly 90 percent of Spotify's recommendations for its 800 million users.
Unlike traditional e-commerce recommendation systems that depend on past purchases, logged-in profiles, or demographic segments, Malachyte's platform predicts a shopper's intent in real time. The system begins analyzing context, such as the device used and the time of day, the moment a page loads. As users click, hover, scroll, or refine searches, the AI continuously updates their behavioral vector to adjust what products they see. For example, a couple of clicks on steel-toed boots can instantly elevate work pants and push dress shoes down the page.
Malachyte has been developing and testing its technology since 2024, initially working with more than 20 enterprise customers across the grocery, travel, and retail sectors. The platform went live in the fall of 2025 with Fun.com. Since June 2026, the technology has been generally available to Shopify merchants through a native integration, while larger retailers can access the system via an API.
For e-commerce practitioners, this shift addresses the challenge of engaging first-time or anonymous visitors who typically see generic storefronts. By capturing immediate intent rather than waiting to aggregate data overnight, merchants can deliver highly relevant experiences during a single session. This real-time adaptability helps retailers capitalize on immediate customer signals, ultimately bridging the gap between merchandising and marketing.
