RWS buys Acogroup for £22.4M to scale European AI
RWS Holdings is acquiring Acolad’s parent company, Acogroup, for an enterprise value of £22.4 million to scale its AI-driven translation and localization platforms across Europe.

RWS Holdings has agreed to acquire Acogroup, the French parent company of language and content services provider Acolad, for an enterprise value of £22.4 million (€26.0 million). The total consideration reaches £40.2 million (€46.6 million), which includes £17.8 million of cash held within the business. This enterprise value represents approximately one-eighth of Acolad's 2025 revenue of £182 million, during which it generated £13 million in adjusted EBITDA. For the financial year ending September 30, 2027, RWS projects Acolad will contribute roughly £155 million in annualized revenue and £11 million in adjusted EBITDA. The transaction, funded via existing facilities refinanced in October 2025, involves acquiring outstanding bonds issued by subsidiary V.O. Paris and held by Barings.
Acolad, founded in 1995 by Benjamin du Fraysseix and his father, employs 1,200 people across 22 countries and serves half of the CAC 40. The firm, which held £404 million in gross assets at the end of 2025, derives half of its revenue from regulated industries, including medical devices. To finalize the transaction, RWS has signed a binding put option, awaiting works council consultations and clearance from France's economy and finance ministry. RWS expects completion by the first half of its 2027 financial year. This marks RWS's second 2026 acquisition, following its May purchase of Obviously Group for £16.5 million in initial cash and up to £23.5 million in earn-outs, a business that recorded £2.5 million in revenue and a £1.5 million loss for the year ending February 28, 2026.
For AI and localization practitioners, this acquisition represents a major consolidation of enterprise language pipelines. Rather than acquiring new technology, RWS is buying massive distribution channels to deploy its existing AI suite. Acolad will join RWS's Transform segment, allowing the buyer to cross-sell its Cultural Intelligence Layer, Language Weaver Pro translation system, and its Generate and Protect suites directly into Acolad's established client base. Furthermore, Acolad brings a robust interpreting operation that RWS previously lacked. Chief executive Benjamin Faes noted that the company is "applying AI at scale" to its expert services, signaling a shift where legacy localization workflows are rapidly automated and enhanced by proprietary machine translation models.
